The Kaduna State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed a fire outbreak involving a fully loaded Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) tanker in the Kwangila area of Zaria Local Government Area.
The Sector Commander, Mr. Andrew Longkam, disclosed the details in a statement issued on Sunday in Kaduna. He explained that the tanker, which belongs to Greenville Company, was parked along the Funtua–Zaria road when a malfunction in its gas valve triggered ignition, leading to the fire.
The resulting blaze spread to nearby shops, causing damage and leaving three adult males with varying degrees of burn injuries.
“The injured victims were promptly evacuated to Nakowa Hospital at Yangoro for initial treatment, and later referred to the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital for further medical care,” he said.
Emergency response teams arrived quickly at the scene and were able to contain the fire. However, Longkam noted that the flames briefly reignited before being fully extinguished.
To ensure safety and prevent secondary accidents, traffic along the affected stretch of road was temporarily diverted to the opposite lane. The situation has since been brought under control, with normal traffic flow restored.
The FRSC also confirmed that efforts are ongoing to evacuate the damaged tanker from the roadside to fully clear the area and ensure smooth movement of vehicles.
Longkam advised motorists approaching the area to remain cautious and comply with instructions from FRSC personnel and other security agencies managing the situation.
He commended the swift and coordinated response of emergency agencies involved in handling the incident and expressed sympathy for those injured, wishing them a speedy recovery.
