Fire Outbreak in Kano Damages 3 Buildings, Transformer Site

A fire outbreak has damaged sections of three residential buildings and an electricity transformer site in the Gaida area near Fatima Bread in Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State.

The Kano State Fire Service said the incident occurred on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at about 11:05 a.m., after its Emergency Response Unit received a distress call from a resident, Aminu Bello.

Firefighters from the agency’s headquarters, along with teams from the Sharada and Rijiyar Zaki fire stations, were promptly dispatched to the scene.

“Upon arrival, our personnel found an open space measuring about 50 by 50 feet, used as an electrical transformer site, completely engulfed in flames,” the agency said in a statement.

The blaze quickly spread to nearby structures, affecting three residential buildings of different sizes. Eyewitnesses described the situation as severe, with flames tearing through parts of the buildings before emergency responders managed to contain it.

Authorities confirmed that the first building, a smaller residential structure, was badly affected, while the second, a one-storey building, sustained significant damage, especially on its upper floor.

The third building, also residential, was equally impacted by the fire.

Initial investigations suggest that the outbreak was triggered by an electrical spark.

Reacting to the incident, the Director of the Fire Service, Sani Anas, urged residents to adopt strict safety measures.

“We advise members of the public to take all necessary precautions to prevent fire outbreaks, especially by avoiding unsafe electrical practices and ensuring proper handling of appliances,” he said.

No casualties have been reported so far, although authorities say investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the damage.

The Fire Service reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property, while encouraging residents to stay alert and report emergencies without delay.
