Easter Attack: Bandits Kill 6 in Kaduna Churches

At least six worshippers have been killed and several others abducted after bandits attacked churches in Ariko community, Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State during Easter Sunday service.

The attackers reportedly targeted First ECWA Church and St. Augustine Catholic Church, arriving in large numbers and opening fire on congregants. Residents said the assailants also abducted several worshippers and carted away offerings collected during the service.

Those confirmed dead include Aminu Soba, Waziri Agunu, Tankoa Haruna, Adamu Jatau, Joseph Gungume, and Rabo Atete.

Following a distress call, troops of the Nigerian Army responded swiftly, engaging the attackers and rescuing 31 abducted victims.

“Troops acted on a distress call reporting that armed attackers had invaded a church and taken worshippers hostage.

“Soldiers were immediately mobilised to the area and, with support from local residents, tracked the assailants as they attempted to flee”, the statement read in part.

Security operations are ongoing to track down the fleeing attackers and secure the area.
