The Nigeria Police Force in Delta State has intensified operations targeting drug dens and criminal hideouts amid growing concerns over substance abuse among youths.
The crackdown follows the death of a 15-year-old boy, Gift Oberhirhi, in Orogun after allegedly misusing a controlled drug.
According to police, “a 15-year-old boy… allegedly abused Dexamethasone tablets… the deceased… swallowed fifteen tablets.”
The Command said the teenager “subsequently fell ill and died while being taken for medical attention.”
Police confirmed a suspect has been arrested, adding that investigations are ongoing.
The Commissioner of Police, Yemi John Oyeniyi, assured that “all necessary measures will be taken to address drug-related crimes across the state.”
Residents were also urged to report suspicious activities as authorities step up efforts to curb drug abuse and related crimes.
