Court Jails Sales Manager, Accomplice Over ₦1m Theft

An Igbosere Magistrate’s Court sitting on Lagos Island has convicted and sentenced a sales manager, Tracy Benibile, to two years and two months in prison for stealing ₦1,000,000 from her employer, Aromire Aromimure.

Her accomplice, Abiola Bosun, an electrician who allowed his bank account to be used for the transaction, was also sentenced to one year and eight months for his involvement.

The judgment was delivered by Chief Magistrate Mrs Gbajumo Ayoku, who found both defendants guilty after a trial that spanned about five years. The decision was based on evidence presented by the police prosecutor, Inspector Hafsat Ajiboye. The court ruled that the sentences would run concurrently.

According to the charge marked M/07/2021, the case dates back to May 18, 2021, when the complainant noticed inconsistencies in her sales records and became suspicious of her sales manager.

She later filed a petition with the Assistant Commissioner of Police at Area A Command on Lagos Island.

During the investigation, Benibile confessed to carrying out the fraud with the help of Bosun, who provided his UBA account for the transfer of the stolen funds. This confession led to Bosun’s arrest.

The court sentenced both individuals without the option of a fine.
