Benue Herders Repel Bandit Attack, Recover Gun

Herders in the Buruku Local Government Area of Benue State have successfully fended off an attack by suspected bandits, recovering a locally fabricated firearm left behind during the confrontation.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the incident was reported to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Buruku at approximately 4:30 p.m. on March 11.

The attack reportedly took place on March 10 when suspected bandits, believed to be from the Sankera axis, confronted a group of herders grazing on a cassava farm.

The farm belonged to Kwagh Orshio A. Gande of the Tse Agbatar community in the Binev Council Ward of the local government.

The herders are said to have bravely resisted the assault, engaging the assailants in a fierce confrontation that ultimately forced the bandits to flee the area.

During their hasty escape, the attackers abandoned a locally fabricated revolver gun at the farm.

Following the report, the DPO in Buruku swiftly mobilized patrol teams. In collaboration with the Operation Anyam Nyor security outfit, they visited the scene and successfully recovered the firearm.

Police sources confirmed that no lives were lost during the encounter. Efforts are currently underway to track down the fleeing suspects for potential arrest.
