Troops of the Nigerian Army attached to the 63 Brigade/Sector 1 of the Joint Task Force, South-South, under Operation Delta Safe, have recorded a significant security breakthrough in Delta State, recovering weapons and arresting suspected criminals during a targeted operation.

The mission was carried out in Ogidigben Community, located in Warri South-West Local Government Area, following intelligence reports indicating suspicious armed activity within the area.

According to an official statement issued on Monday by Captain Iliyasu Bawa-Rijau, the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 63 Brigade in Asaba, the troops were mobilized after reports of sporadic gunfire raised concerns among residents.

“The operation was conducted following reports of sporadic shooting in the community.”

Acting on the intelligence gathered, the troops moved quickly to the scene, where they intercepted the suspects and recovered a cache of weapons and related items.

“Acting on credible intelligence, the troops responded swiftly and confiscated four AK-47 rifles, six magazines, 106 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, two knives, 10 machetes, and four pairs of rain boots.”

The statement confirmed that two suspects were arrested during the operation and are currently in custody, undergoing further investigation as authorities work to determine the extent of their involvement in criminal activities.

Reacting to the development, the Commander of the 63 Brigade, Moronfolu Abdulmoshood Shonibare, commended the troops for their professionalism and resilience in executing the operation.

He encouraged them to sustain the current operational momentum, emphasizing the importance of consistent pressure on criminal elements operating within the region.

The brigade commander also reassured residents of the military’s commitment to maintaining security and preventing criminals from operating freely.

Issuing a stern warning, he cautioned that “any individuals or groups harbouring arms or engaging in criminal activities should rethink,” noting that intensified efforts are underway to identify and apprehend those involved.
