The Traditional Prime Minister of Ike Mgboko autonomous community in Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State, Daniel Iheadindueme, has condemned the destruction of newly cultivated crops in parts of the community.
He alleged that the damage was caused by cattle belonging to Fulani herders, who reportedly drove their livestock into farmlands and allowed them to graze on newly sprouting crops.
According to him, the affected areas include Mgboko Okpulor village, Mgboko Amairi village, and the Nne Nkute axis.
Iheadindueme further claimed that farmers were threatened during the incidents, raising concerns about safety and the protection of agricultural livelihoods.
He described the situation as a serious threat to food security and the economic stability of residents, warning that continued destruction of farms could lead to increased hunger in rural communities.
The community leader cautioned herders against trespassing on farmland or engaging in any form of violence, stating that anyone found violating the law would be apprehended and handed over to the appropriate authorities for prosecution.
He also appealed to leaders of the Hausa community in the state to sensitise their members on the need to comply with existing laws and community regulations.
While commending Governor Alex Otti for efforts to improve security, Iheadindueme urged farmers to remain law-abiding and report suspicious activities to security agencies.
