There was panic at Our Lady of Apostle Secondary School in Ijebu Ode after several students reportedly fell ill following exposure to a suspected chemical odour.
About 30 students and a teacher were hospitalised after the incident, which occurred shortly after morning assembly.
The Vice Principal, Adeola Borogun, said the situation prompted immediate medical response.
“Several students began vomiting and fainting, forcing the school management to call for ambulances from the State General Hospital, Ijebu Ode,” she said.
Ogun State Commissioner for Environment, Ola Oresanya, dismissed reports of an explosion, suggesting a possible gas leak.
“No, there is no explosion anywhere.
“It’s a gas leakage from somewhere… We are bringing a gas analyser there now…” he said.
Authorities confirmed the affected students are stable, while investigations are ongoing to determine the source of the odour.
