The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed that 10 people lost their lives, while 20 others were injured in a road crash along the Tafa–Gujeni route in Niger State.
In a statement, FRSC Corps Marshal, Malam Shehu Mohammed, said the accident occurred around 8:20 a.m. at Malam Tanko and involved a DAF tanker carrying 33 male occupants.
According to him, three individuals were rescued without injuries, while preliminary investigations pointed to excessive speed and loss of control as the main causes of the crash.
He further revealed that the vehicle was involved in illegal mixed loading, transporting both goods and passengers at the same time.
Mohammed noted that FRSC operatives responded promptly by rescuing victims and clearing the road. The injured were taken to Umar Musa General Hospital in Sabon Wuse, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited in a mortuary.
Describing the incident as avoidable, he cautioned motorists against speeding and unsafe transportation practices, urging them to strictly adhere to road safety regulations.
