The Senate of Bayero University Kano (BUK) has approved the expulsion of 171 students over the submission of fake entry qualifications.
The decision was reached during the institution’s 433rd Senate meeting held on March 4, 2026, as contained in a bulletin issued by the Public Affairs Directorate on behalf of the Registrar.
The university explained that the move followed a detailed review of a report presented by the Senate Committee on Entry Qualification Irregularities, which examined inconsistencies in students’ admission records.
According to the statement, those affected were found to have falsified the documents they used to secure admission into the institution.
“The decision followed the consideration and approval of the report submitted by the Senate Committee on Entry Qualification Irregularities,” the statement said.
It further noted that such misconduct contravenes the university’s rules as outlined in its General Examinations and Academic Regulations (GEAR).
“This act constitutes a violation under Section 20.7, Category A (vii) of the University’s regulations, which prescribes expulsion for students found guilty of falsifying entry qualifications,” the bulletin stated.
In a related development, the Senate also approved the expulsion of a Civil Engineering student, identified as Yusuf Muhammad Sani, over an incident involving physical assault during an examination.
The university stated that the student attacked invigilators, thereby disrupting the examination process.
“The incident was found to be in violation of Section 20.7, Category A (vi) of the University’s regulations,” the statement added.
The institution reaffirmed its commitment to upholding academic standards and discipline, warning that it will continue to enforce its regulations against all forms of misconduct.
