Nigeria Airlines Struggle as Aviation Fuel Prices Triple

The President of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, Alex Nwuba, says the real strain on Nigeria’s aviation sector isn’t the tensions in the Straits of Hormuz, it’s the global cost of aviation fuel.

Speaking on Saturday during Arise Television’s Morning Show, Nwuba addressed the ongoing fuel scarcity concerns and the Airline Operators’ proposed strike.

He explained that the planned industrial action is intended to draw urgent government attention to worsening conditions in the sector.

“Airlines have been facing price increases that have tripled, and the airlines cannot raise fares because we are essentially maxed out on what consumers are able to pay.

“Unlike some other nations, our challenges are not as a result of supply shortages thanks to the local refining capacity of the Dangote Refinery but on international pricing,” he said.
