The Nigerian currency, the naira, extended its appreciation against the United States dollar at the official foreign exchange market, closing the week on a positive note.
Data from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) showed that the naira strengthened further on Friday, trading at N1,380.58 per dollar compared to N1,383.88 recorded on Thursday. This represents a day-to-day gain of N3.3.
On a weekly basis, the currency improved by N26 when compared to the N1,353.90 exchange rate recorded on Wednesday, March 18, 2026.
At the parallel market, however, the naira remained stable at N1,420 per dollar, unchanged from Thursday’s rate.
The development comes amid a continued decline in Nigeria’s external reserves, which fell to $49.48 billion as of March 26.
