Cristiano Ronaldo’s injury has led to a sharp drop in ticket prices for Portugal’s upcoming friendly against Mexico.
Ronaldo was forced off during Al-Nassr’s 3–1 win over Al Fayha FC on February 28.
On March 3, Al-Nassr confirmed that the Portuguese star is sidelined with a hamstring injury.
Further concern emerged when Al-Nassr manager Jorge Jesus spoke ahead of the club’s home league match against Neom SC. He revealed that the injury is more serious than initially expected and that Ronaldo would travel to Madrid for treatment.
The 41-year-old had been expected to represent Portugal in international fixtures later this month.
Portugal are scheduled to face Mexico first at Estadio Azteca on March 28 before taking on the United States on March 31 as part of their preparations for the FIFA World Cup.
However, due to his recent injury setback, Ronaldo may no longer feature in either of the two friendlies.
Reports indicate that ticket prices for the Mexico vs Portugal match have dropped significantly following the news. While tickets were previously selling for around 10,000 Mexican pesos, they are now available for roughly 4,000 pesos or even less.
Ronaldo remains one of the biggest figures in world football, yet he has never played a match in Mexico before.
Because of that, the friendly at Estadio Azteca was expected to draw massive attention beyond a typical exhibition game.
Despite nearing the final stage of his career, Ronaldo continues to perform for the Portuguese national team and remains the country’s most capped player as well as its all-time leading goal scorer.
