Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has dismissed reports linking him with a potential summer move to Real Madrid, describing the speculation as “nonsense,” while still leaving open the possibility of a return to coaching in the future.
The 58-year-old, who stepped down from his role at Liverpool at the end of the 2023–24 season and now works as head of global football for Red Bull, had been tipped as a possible replacement for Alvaro Arbeloa at the Spanish club.
Speaking at the Magenta TV World Cup team presentation in Munich, Klopp firmly denied any contact from Real Madrid.
“If Real Madrid had phoned, we would have heard about it by now. But that’s all nonsense. They haven’t called even once, not once. My agent is there, you can ask him. They haven’t called him either.”
Despite ruling out the move, Klopp hinted that he may not be done with coaching entirely.
“For my age, I’m quite advanced in life, but as a coach I’m not completely finished. I haven’t reached retirement age. Who knows what will happen in the coming years? But there’s nothing planned,” he said.
However, he made one thing very clear that he will not manage another club in England outside Liverpool.
“What I know definitely is that I will never, ever manage a different club in England than Liverpool, 100%. That’s not possible.”
During his time at Liverpool, Klopp enjoyed remarkable success, winning the UEFA Champions League in 2019 and leading the club to its first Premier League title in 30 years during the 2019–20 season.
He also secured the FA Cup, two League Cups, the UEFA Super Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup.
Before his stint in England, Klopp guided Borussia Dortmund to back-to-back Bundesliga titles in 2011 and 2012 and also had a spell managing Mainz 05.
