NDC Urges Obi, Kwankwaso to Join Party for 2027

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has publicly invited Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso to join its ranks and contest the 2027 presidential election under its platform.

The call was made in a post shared on X on Sunday, where the party indicated that both politicians have approximately two weeks to defect and secure its presidential ticket ahead of the upcoming electoral cycle.

“All we need right now. Just all we need. Two weeks to deadline,” the party wrote.

The post also featured a photo of Obi and Kwankwaso shaking hands, with the caption “Nigeria will be OK,” signalling a message of unity and optimism.

This move comes shortly after supporters of the two politicians unveiled the “OK Movement,” an initiative aimed at building momentum for a possible joint presidential bid in 2027. The group’s spokesperson, Justin Ijeh, also announced a series of appointments into its national and state-level structures as part of its expansion efforts.

At the same time, the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which currently serves as the political base for both Obi and Kwankwaso, is facing internal leadership challenges. These disputes could have implications for the party’s preparedness ahead of the elections.

On April 22, the Supreme Court of Nigeria reserved judgement in a case involving rival factions led by David Mark and Nafiu Bala.

In addition, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed May 30, 2026, as the deadline for political parties to submit membership lists and nominate candidates.

However, several opposition parties, including the ADC, a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), have appealed to INEC to extend the deadline to the end of July.

They argue that the current timeline is too restrictive and could place them at a disadvantage as preparations for the 2027 elections intensify.
