INEC Officials Present as PDP Convention Begins in Abuja

Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were present on Sunday as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) began its national convention at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja.

The development was confirmed by Lere Olayinka, spokesperson to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

Delegates were seen arriving at the venue for accreditation and security screening, with party members dressed in PDP colours gathering under tight security. Key stakeholders, including Wike, were also in attendance.

Olayinka listed top INEC officials present, including National Commissioners Prof. Sani Adams and Dr Ken Ukeagu, alongside other senior staff.

The convention, organised by the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led caretaker committee, is expected to produce members of the party’s National Working Committee ahead of the 2027 elections.

Despite ongoing internal disputes and a previous parallel convention in Ibadan, the committee insisted there is no court order stopping the exercise.

“The National Caretaker Working Committee has worked tirelessly to ensure that this convention is credible, transparent and inclusive,” said the committee’s spokesperson, Jungudo Mohammed.

He added that reconciliation efforts would continue, stressing the party’s commitment to stability and internal democracy.
