A significant wave of defections swept through the House of Representatives on Thursday, as Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu announced that 12 lawmakers had officially changed their political affiliations.
During the plenary session, Kalu disclosed that six members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had crossed over to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
He further announced that another six lawmakers, drawn from the Young Progressives Party (YPP) and the Labour Party (LP), had defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
These announcements were formally read out on the floor of the House during the plenary.
The list of senators involved in defections includes Ikra Bilbis, who represents Zamfara Central, Aminu Iya Abbas of Adamawa Central, and Amos Yohanna.
Their defections were officially made public during Wednesday’s plenary by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
This development occurred shortly after four members of the House of Representatives had also defected from the PDP and LP to the ruling APC.
