Babagana Zulum, governor of Borno State, has expressed grief over residents who lost their lives during a recent attack on the Ngoshe community in Gwoza Local Government Area, assuring that steps are being taken to rescue those abducted in the incident.
The governor made this known on Friday during a visit to displaced residents from Ngoshe who are currently sheltering in Pulka community, where he offered condolences to families affected by the attack.
Zulum explained that military operations are ongoing in the area as well as in parts of the Sambisa Forest in a bid to track down the attackers and secure the freedom of residents who were taken away.
He noted that security forces are ramping up their efforts to dislodge insurgents operating within the region.
The governor also called for stronger military presence and sustained operations around the Mandara Mountains, describing the area as a persistent security challenge due to the activities of insurgent groups.
Zulum further revealed that the state government has begun delivering relief assistance to the affected communities, including the distribution of food items and the establishment of temporary feeding centres for displaced persons.
During the visit, the governor also inspected homes that were destroyed in a separate attack in Konduga town.
