The University of Jos (UNIJOS) has postponed exams scheduled for Monday and Tuesday following rising tension in Jos after a deadly attack in Anguwan Rukuba, Jos North.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Deputy Registrar Emmanuel Madugu explained that the decision was necessary because many students and staff live in the affected area. He added that the Vice-Chancellor approved the move to ensure everyone’s safety.
“In view of the fatal attacks by unknown gunmen on residents of Anguwan Rukuba, an area that accommodates many staff and students of the university and the tension it has generated, the Vice-Chancellor has directed that all examinations scheduled for Monday, March 30, and Tuesday, March 31, 2026, be postponed and rescheduled,” the statement said.
The university also advised members of the community to stay cautious and limit movement.
“For emphasis, members are strongly advised to avoid coming out very early in the morning and to report any sign of security breach to the University Security Division,” Madugu added.
Management noted that it is working with security agencies and will provide updates as needed.
