UNICAL Moves Against Certificate Forgery

The Vice-Chancellor of University of Calabar (UNICAL), Offiong Offiong, has revealed that the institution is actively tracking individuals involved in certificate forgery.

Speaking ahead of the university’s 38th convocation ceremony, the VC disclosed that some perpetrators are producing fake certificates using computer systems while attempting to forge official signatures of past registrars and vice-chancellors.

“We are aware of the ongoing shady practices with certificates printed in computer centers… We are closing up on a few that have been fingered and when they are apprehended, we will not fail in our duty to show these avowed enemies to the world,” he said.

Offiong also raised concerns about individuals soliciting money in exchange for admissions and job placements, urging the public to report such cases to the authorities.

He added that the university has begun taking disciplinary action against an officer linked to admission racketeering, while reforms are ongoing to address issues affecting the institution’s reputation.

The VC emphasized that the administration is committed to tackling fraudulent practices, improving transparency, and restoring the integrity of the university.
