President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reiterated his administration’s determination to eliminate terrorism and banditry, pledging sustained investment in Nigeria’s armed forces to strengthen national security.
The President made the declaration on Friday during an official visit to Bayelsa State, where he commissioned several infrastructure projects and addressed stakeholders.
Speaking at the event, Tinubu emphasised that his government would continue to prioritise the training and equipping of security personnel to confront insurgency and other violent threats across the country.
“We will continue to equip and train our men and women of the armed forces. We will defeat terrorism and banditry,” the President said.
His remarks come amid ongoing security concerns, particularly in the North-East, including a recent coordinated attack on a military formation in Benisheikh, Borno State, which resulted in casualties among troops.
Tinubu paid tribute to fallen security personnel, describing them as patriots who stood “between danger and the rest of the nation,” and called for reflection in honour of their sacrifices.
Beyond security, the President linked the fight against insurgency to broader governance priorities, stressing that infrastructure development and economic opportunities are essential to long-term stability.
He noted that his administration remains focused on delivering tangible improvements through investments in roads, power, job creation, and other initiatives aimed at improving livelihoods and reducing the conditions that fuel insecurity.
Tinubu also maintained that ongoing military operations and reforms within the security architecture are producing results, with increased pressure being mounted on insurgent groups.
During the visit, the President commissioned several projects executed by the administration of Douye Diri. These include the 630-metre Angiama-Oporoma Bridge, the Sagbama/Ekeremor Road, and a 2.9-kilometre dual carriageway in Yenagoa.
At a stakeholders’ meeting held at the Bayelsa Government House, Tinubu commended the state government’s independent power project, describing it as a key step towards improving electricity supply and driving economic growth.
“We are all working hard. Independent power supply is a good development. I assure Nigerians that electricity will be available to power growth and prosperity,” the President said.
He urged the state government to sustain its development efforts through more people-focused projects and assured continued support from the Federal Government.
In his remarks, Governor Douye Diri expressed appreciation to the President for the visit and for commissioning the projects, describing him as a longstanding ally of the state.
He noted that Federal Government policies in the power sector have enabled states to pursue independent energy solutions.
“Your administration’s policy interventions have made it possible for us to deliver on our promise of reliable, independent power through these gas-powered turbines.
“For us, this is more than an achievement; it is a moment of fulfilment and celebration,” Diri said.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including former President Goodluck Jonathan.
