Sanwo-Olu Calls for Participation in Lagos Sanitation Exercise

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has called on residents of Lagos to actively participate in the reinstated monthly environmental sanitation exercise, stressing that maintaining a clean city is a shared responsibility.

In a message issued ahead of the exercise, the governor highlighted the importance of environmental care, noting that it plays a vital role alongside infrastructure development in shaping a better Lagos.

“From 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., I ask everyone to play their part,” Sanwo-Olu said.

He encouraged residents, landlords, and business owners to take practical steps within their immediate environments, including clearing gutters and ensuring proper waste disposal.

The governor specifically urged compliance with waste management guidelines by handing over refuse to the Lagos Waste Management Authority, emphasising the role of proper systems in keeping the city clean.

Sanwo-Olu warned that poor waste disposal practices and blocked drainage systems continue to pose serious threats, particularly by increasing the risk of flooding and environmental hazards.

“Nobody should need reminders or pressure to keep their space clean. It is your home, so take care of it,” he said.

He noted that while Lagos is a fast-paced city, maintaining cleanliness should be driven by personal responsibility rather than enforcement alone.

The governor stressed that the sanitation exercise is a joint effort between government and citizens, adding that consistent participation could significantly transform neighbourhoods and improve overall living conditions.

He expressed optimism that the renewed initiative would encourage a culture of cleanliness and civic pride among residents.

“Let’s work together to make our neighbourhoods reflect the excellence we all talk about,” Sanwo-Olu added.
