The Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Oludaisi Elemide, has cautioned residents against indiscriminate dumping of refuse and the misuse of road shoulders for storing building materials, warning that such practices obstruct traffic and damage public infrastructure.
Elemide issued the warning during plenary in response to concerns raised by a lawmaker representing Sagamu II State Constituency, Ademola Adeniran.
Adeniran, who spoke under a matter of urgent public importance, reported that some residents had for months been dumping building materials on road shoulders within his constituency, creating hazards for motorists and pedestrians.
He stressed the need for immediate intervention, noting that the practice continues to degrade road infrastructure, hinder maintenance efforts, and disrupt traffic flow in affected areas.
In a related development, the Assembly passed a resolution adopting the report of its Committee on Lands and Housing concerning revised regulations from the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development.
The updated framework includes several key regulations aimed at strengthening planning and development control across the state. These cover building production management, planning and development permits, slum regeneration, outdoor physical structures, and land layout and subdivision.
The committee report was presented by its chairman, Damilola Soneye, and seconded by Lukman Adeleye. The motion for adoption was later moved by the House Leader, Yusuf Sheriff, and received unanimous support from lawmakers through a voice vote.
Following the adoption, the Speaker directed that the resolution be transmitted to relevant authorities for implementation.
