The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) has sealed two residential properties in Ikotun and additional facilities in Ajah for discharging untreated wastewater into the environment.
The enforcement action, carried out on April 15, followed multiple complaints from residents, prior warnings, and investigations confirming environmental violations at the affected locations.
According to the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, the properties at Oritola Street and Temitope Street in Ikotun were found to be channeling untreated wastewater directly onto public roads.
“The present situation which remains unabated showed that the properties were deliberately releasing untreated wastewater into the environment through pipes onto the roads, thereby constituting public nuisance,” the statement said.
In a related operation, officials also shut down a public toilet and a mechanic workshop along Badore Road in Ajah for discharging wastewater into public drains.
“@followlasg reiterates the need for residents and property managers to adhere strictly to proper wastewater management practices. Individual or organisation found contravening environmental regulations will be meted with appropriate sanctions and possible prosecution in accordance with the enabling laws,” the statement added.
Authorities urged residents and property owners to comply with environmental regulations, warning that violators risk penalties and prosecution.
