Jigawa Gets New Police Commissioner Haruna Yahaya

The Jigawa State Police Command has announced that Haruna Alaba Yahaya has officially assumed office as the new Commissioner of Police in the state.

According to a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, Shiisu Lawan Adam, the new commissioner takes over from Dahiru Muhammad, who has been promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police and redeployed to Zone 15 headquarters in Maiduguri.

CP Haruna, a native of Ijumu Local Government Area in Kogi State, joined the Nigeria Police Force on May 18, 1992, as a cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police.

He holds a degree in Geography from the University of Jos and brings more than three decades of policing experience to his new role.

Over the years, he has served in various capacities across the country, gaining experience in operations, investigations, and administrative duties.

Before his latest appointment, he was Commissioner of Police in charge of General Investigation at the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex in Lagos, and also served as CP Investment.

His career also includes key leadership roles such as Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of operations in Borno State, and Deputy Commissioner for investigation and intelligence at the National Central Bureau (INTERPOL) in Abuja.

He further served as Assistant Commissioner of Police for operations in Enugu State and as Area Commander at the Eastern Ports Authority Police Command.

In his new capacity, CP Haruna has pledged to strengthen security through professionalism and intelligence-driven strategies.

He also emphasised the importance of respecting human rights and building stronger partnerships between the police and the community.
