Donald Trump has claimed that Iran wanted him to serve as its Supreme Leader, a suggestion he said he declined.
The U.S. president made the remark on Wednesday while speaking at the annual fundraising dinner of the National Republican Congressional Committee in Washington, D.C.
During his address, Trump also asserted that Iran is eager to negotiate, claiming the country is keen to reach an agreement but hesitant to openly express it.
“Iran wants me to be their Supreme Leader but I don’t want. Thank you. It’s never been the head of a country that wanted that job less than being the head of Iran. I don’t want it,” he said.
He further described the ongoing tensions in the Middle East as part of a military operation, alleging that the United States is significantly weakening Iran.
Trump also claimed that Iran would have used a nuclear weapon against the United States without hesitation, reinforcing his stance on the perceived threat posed by the country.
