The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has rolled out its 2026 Easter Special Patrol, deploying officers and equipment across major highways to ensure safer travel during the festive period.
The exercise, scheduled from April 1 to April 8, is aimed at managing the expected surge in movement as Nigerians join global Easter celebrations.
According to the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, the operation is necessary due to increased traffic nationwide.
Key routes under close monitoring include major corridors such as Lagos-Ibadan, Abuja-Lokoja, Benin-Auchi-Okene, and several eastern highways like Onitsha-Asaba-Benin and Enugu-Aba-Port Harcourt.
FRSC said personnel and logistics have been strategically deployed to boost traffic control, enhance visibility, and ensure rapid emergency response.
The Corps will also intensify enforcement against common traffic violations, including speeding, reckless driving, overloading, and the use of mobile phones while driving.
“To reinforce compliance and deter traffic violations, mobile courts will be deployed along major routes for the prompt prosecution of offenders,” the statement said.
“The Corps has activated round-the-clock patrol, rescue, and traffic management services, supported by the deployment of patrol vehicles, ambulances, tow trucks, and modern enforcement equipment,” the statement added.
Public awareness campaigns will also be expanded through National Traffic Radio and other platforms to provide real-time updates to road users.
