The Department of State Services (DSS) has released several officials linked to the Kano State Government after questioning them over a petition submitted by former governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
The individuals were invited for interrogation and reportedly spent about four hours in custody before being granted bail on self-recognition.
Those involved include Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Director General of Media and Publicity at the Government House; Ibrahim Adam, Special Adviser on Information; Salisu Yahaya Hotoro, APC Youth Leader in Kano; and Nuhu Dambazau, a senior reporter attached to the Government House.
The petition, filed by Kwankwaso under the Kwankwasiyya Movement and dated April 10, 2026, accuses the officials of engaging in cyberbullying and making defamatory statements against him and some of his supporters on social media.
He alleged that the actions were coordinated efforts aimed at damaging his reputation.
Their release shortly after questioning indicates that the matter remains under investigation, with no final determination made at this stage.
The situation unfolds against the backdrop of growing online political tensions between supporters of the Kwankwasiyya Movement and those aligned with the Kano State Government.
As of the time of reporting, neither the DSS nor the Kano State Government has issued an official statement regarding the development.
