Atiku Signs $1.2m Deal with US Lobbying Firm

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has engaged a Washington-based lobbying firm, Von Batten-Montague-York L.C., to enhance his image and influence within United States policy circles.

Documents filed with the U.S. Department of Justice reveal that the agreement was signed in March 2026 by the firm’s managing partner, Karl Von Batten, and Nigerian politician Fabiyi Oladimeji on behalf of Atiku.

According to the filing, the engagement is intended to reshape perceptions about the former vice president and counter narratives associated with the Nigerian government.

The contract also outlines plans to facilitate meetings with U.S. officials and provide strategic advisory services on policy positioning.

“These activities include lobbying and government affairs engagement with members of Congress, congressional staff, and executive branch officials concerning issues related to democratic governance, regional stability, economic development, and U.S. engagement with Nigeria and the broader West African region,” part of the contract read.

The agreement, valued at $1.2 million over 12 months, comes as Atiku is considered a potential contender in Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election.
