Two Police Officers Killed in Katsina Bandit Ambush

Two police officers have been killed after suspected bandits attacked a police convoy in Katsina State, making away with their weapons.

According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the attack occurred around 5:50 p.m. on April 7, 2026, in Sabon Garin Garu village, Musawa Local Government Area.

The assailants, reportedly numbering in large groups and riding about 30 motorcycles, are believed to be linked to a bandit leader identified as Muhammadu.

The officers, attached to the Police Mobile Force (27 PMF), were travelling from Zamfara State when they were ambushed.

A swift response by police tactical teams and local security groups led to a gun battle, forcing the attackers to retreat. Three officers were rescued unharmed.

However, two officers Sgt. Bilyaminu Babangida and PC Abdulaziz Musa lost their lives in the attack.

“The attackers also carted away the officers’ service rifles and a riot gunner,” the source said.

Reinforcements have since been deployed, with ongoing operations aimed at tracking down the suspects and recovering the stolen weapons.
