Police Recover Two Stolen Vehicles in Kano

The Kano State Police Command has announced the recovery of two stolen vehicles in separate operations carried out in Tarauni and Kumbotso local government areas.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the command’s spokesperson, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the recoveries form part of ongoing efforts to strengthen intelligence-led and visibility policing across the state.

He noted that the operations reflect the command’s “renewed commitment to proactive crime prevention, management, and control.”

The first incident involved a Toyota Corolla stolen in Abuja. The 2004 model vehicle, with registration number DRA 735AA, was reportedly taken on April 22 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Wuse.

Kiyawa explained that police operatives acted promptly after receiving credible information.

“Operatives of the Command’s Special Intervention Squad (SIS) swiftly swung into action,” he said.

The vehicle was later traced to Darmarawa Layout in the Naibawa area of Tarauni LGA, where it was recovered. Police believe it was abandoned by a suspected serial car thief who is currently at large, with efforts ongoing to apprehend the suspect.

In a separate operation, a Kia Optima belonging to a resident, Musbahu Baba Muhammad, was reported stolen on April 24 near a mosque along BUK Road.

Following the report, officers from the Sharada Division launched an investigation and, with support from members of the Zone 5 Ja’en Vigilante Group, recovered the vehicle the next day in Ja’en Quarters.

“The stolen vehicle was recovered and is now in safe custody,” Kiyawa said, adding that investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest those responsible.

The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended the officers involved for their professionalism and swift response.

He also acknowledged the role of the vigilante group and members of the public in providing useful information that aided the operations.

Kiyawa emphasised that the successes underscore the importance of community policing and collaboration between security agencies and residents.

“The Command urges members of the public to remain vigilant and to continue providing useful information on suspicious persons and activities,” he said.

Authorities added that efforts are ongoing to track down all suspects connected to the thefts.
