Police Charge Two Women Over Nasarawa Student’s Killing

The Nigeria Police Force has brought criminal charges against two women, Grace Okosun and Zainab Abdulmumin, over the alleged killing of a 19-year-old student of Nasarawa State University, Zubeidat Isa.

The case was mentioned before the FCT High Court sitting in Apo Resettlement, but proceedings were stalled at the last hearing, leading the court to adjourn to a later date.

According to court documents marked CR/335/2025 and dated May 27, 2025, the police charged the defendants with culpable homicide in connection with the student’s death. The case was filed by Wisdom Madaki from the Legal Prosecution Section of the police.

Authorities allege that the offence occurred on February 13, 2025, within the court’s jurisdiction. The charge sheet states that the two defendants conspired to commit culpable homicide, an offence punishable under Sections 96 and 97 of the Penal Code.

Further details in the charge claim that Grace Okosun, 32, and Zainab Abdulmumin, 28, allegedly killed the victim at House 3, Annex Hotel after suspecting her of being involved in a relationship with Okosun’s boyfriend, identified as Kelvin Donaldson. The alleged act is said to contravene Sections 220 and 221 of the Penal Code.

Meanwhile, a civic group, Egbira Voice Worldwide, has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police, calling for justice for the deceased.

In a petition signed by its President-General, Prince Raji Anas, and General Secretary, Kenneth Enebe, the group insisted that all those linked to the alleged crime must face prosecution.

The organisation further alleged that the main suspect, believed to be the victim’s employer, lured the teenager from her family home on the day of the incident under the guise of assigning her work.

According to the petition, the victim had been observing her day off when she was contacted by her employer and asked to report for duty. She reportedly never returned afterward.

The court is scheduled to continue hearing the case on July 7, 2026.
