The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested two men suspected of vandalising electric cables and poles along the Gitata–Gunduma Road in Nasarawa State.
The suspects, Chigozie Igbokwe, 41, and Emmanuel John, 45, both residents of Jikwoyi in the Federal Capital Territory, were apprehended in the early hours of Friday during a routine patrol by officers attached to the Gitata Police Division.
The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Ramhan Nansel, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday, noting that the suspects were arrested at about 5:40 a.m. while allegedly transporting vandalised electrical materials.
Items recovered from them include iron cutters, pliers, spanners, electric cables and a grey Hyundai Sonata with registration number GWA 44 PM, which police said was used to transport the vandalised items.
Nansel explained that the arrest followed the alertness of a patrol team carrying out routine security operations along the road.
He added that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Shetima Jauro Mohammed, has ordered that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Lafia for further investigation.
“The Commissioner of Police has ordered that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation and prosecution,” the statement said.
The command also reaffirmed its commitment to protecting critical public infrastructure and warned individuals involved in vandalism to desist or face the full force of the law.
