Osun Police Arrest 4 Over Attack on Officers in Ilobu

The Osun State Police Command has arrested four suspects in connection with an attack on police officers by suspected hoodlums in Ilobu town, Irepodun Local Government Area.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued in Osogbo by the command’s spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi.

Ojelabi said the command was disturbed by a viral video showing officers being attacked in the community, describing the act as unlawful and a direct assault on constituted authority.

“The command strongly condemns the act, as it is unlawful and a direct attack on constituted authority,” he said.

He explained that the incident began when police officers were deployed following reports of unrest linked to a land boundary dispute between the Erin-Osun and Ilobu communities.

According to him, the officers initially dispersed the hoodlums upon arrival, but some youths in Ilobu later turned violent and attacked the officers while they were carrying out their duties.

He added that one of the officers was dragged to the palace of the traditional ruler in Ilobu, where he was allegedly subjected to further inhumane treatment.

The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, has since deployed an intervention team to the area. Four suspects have been arrested, while others identified in connection with the incident are being pursued.

The command warned residents of Erin-Osun and Ilobu to refrain from violence and attacks on security personnel, emphasizing the need to maintain peace and order in the affected communities.
