At least 16 people, including 14 vigilante members and two civilians, have been killed in a fresh attack on Bagna and Yelwa communities in Niger State.
Among the victims was a local vigilante commander in Bagna, located in Shiroro Local Government Area. The incident was confirmed in a statement by the state’s Commissioner for Information, Nuhu Nana.
The government expressed deep sorrow over the killings, describing the deceased vigilantes as courageous individuals who paid the ultimate price in the fight against insecurity.
In a related development, security forces recorded a major success, reportedly neutralising 110 bandits across several communities in Shiroro. The operation spanned multiple locations, with dozens of suspects eliminated in coordinated raids.
Authorities say the outcome reflects the growing effectiveness of joint security efforts aimed at restoring order in the troubled region.
Residents have been urged to remain vigilant, limit movement in high-risk areas, and support security agencies with credible information.
