NDLEA Arrests 93-Year-Old Man, Doctor in Drug Bust

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intensified its nationwide crackdown on drug trafficking, leading to the arrest of several suspects—including a 93-year-old man and a 69-year-old medical doctor.

Details of the operations were disclosed on Sunday by the agency’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi.

Among those arrested is Pa Friday Ahukanna Chigbu, a nonagenarian apprehended at his Abia State residence on April 7, 2026, where 7.7 kilograms of skunk were discovered. He reportedly admitted to long-term use of the substance, dating back to 1959, and said he ventured into the trade about a year ago.

In another operation, NDLEA officers arrested an Ivorian national, Gohouri Michael, at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport while attempting to board a flight to Milan. He was found carrying 82 wraps of cocaine weighing 1.49 kilograms.

Investigations into the case led to the arrest of Dr Chudi Daniel Ofomata in Ogun State, who was identified as a key figure coordinating the drug movement. Authorities also recovered controlled substances, including promazepam and promethazine injections, from him.

The agency reported additional arrests and seizures across several states, including Ogun, Imo, Niger, Borno, Lagos, Abuja, and Edo, involving large quantities of cannabis, opioids, and codeine-based products.

NDLEA Chairman Mohamed Buba Marwa commended officers for sustaining efforts in tackling both the supply and demand sides of drug abuse nationwide.
