An unidentified young man, suspected of being involved in vandalizing a transformer in Calabar, has been tragically set ablaze.
Just a month prior, on February 10, a similar incident occurred where an unknown man was burned alive at dawn for allegedly vandalizing a transformer in the same neighborhood.
Exactly one month later, on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, a suspected mob action took place around 6:30 a.m. on Palm Street by Target Junction in Calabar.
The mob, which included members of the local vigilante team, reportedly apprehended the individual and subsequently burned him to death before the police could arrive.
Confirming the incident, Police PRO, ASP Eitokpah Sunday, said: “Upon receiving the information, a police patrol team swiftly mobilized to the scene, where the burnt corpse was found in front of the transformer.
“Items recovered at the scene include an old-model electricity meter box, a piece of copper wire, and electric cables, suspected to be vandalized materials.”
The PRO added that local government authorities and the Environmental Health Services were contacted to evacuate the corpse.
The command issued a warning that mob action or jungle justice is illegal and unacceptable.
“Members of the public are strongly advised to hand over suspects to the police for proper investigation and prosecution rather than take the law into their own hands.”
