Jigawa SUBEB Arrests 7 Teachers Over Exam Malpractice

The Jigawa State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has confirmed the arrest of seven teachers over alleged examination malpractice during a statewide assessment exercise.

The board’s Executive Chairman, Professor Haruna Musa, disclosed this while overseeing the assessment across several centres. He stated that the affected teachers have been handed over to the police for further investigation.

According to him, the move is part of the state government’s broader efforts to reform the education sector and improve teaching standards.

Professor Musa emphasized that the assessment is designed to evaluate teachers’ competence and ensure that only qualified and committed educators remain in the system. He also warned that malpractice would not be tolerated, describing it as a serious threat to the credibility of the education system.

The exercise, known as the Teacher Training Needs Assessment, involved over 8,400 teachers across the state and aims to identify gaps in teaching capacity while enhancing overall learning outcomes.
