Edo Police Arrest Four Suspected Cultists, Recover Firearms in Uromi

Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have arrested four individuals suspected of cult-related activities and recovered several firearms during a targeted raid in Uromi, located in Esan North-East Local Government Area.

The operation, which took place in the early hours of March 24, 2026, followed actionable intelligence, according to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikedem.

Those arrested were identified as Solomon Oboigbe, 27, from Ewoyi Quarters; Fidelis Omale, 26, and Julius Oseyomon, 64, both from Atani; as well as Abraham Erumosele Momo, 54, from Eco Obedo all residents of Uromi.

During the operation, officers recovered four pump-action rifles, nine live cartridges, and three spent shells.

Initial police findings indicate that the suspects are linked to the Eiye Confraternity, with the weapons believed to have been acquired illegally.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, praised the operatives for their swift and professional conduct. He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intensifying efforts against cultism and the proliferation of illegal arms.

“The Command remains resolute in its efforts to rid the state of cultism and other violent crimes,” he said, emphasizing ongoing strategies to enhance security across the state.

Following preliminary investigations, the suspects have been charged to court.

The police also encouraged members of the public to continue sharing timely and credible information, assuring that all tips would be treated with the utmost confidentiality as part of broader efforts to safeguard lives and property throughout Edo State.
