The Delta State Police Command has arrested Chief Omorede Sunday, organiser of the Oramudu Festival in Ozoro community, Delta State, along with four others over allegations that young women were sexually assaulted and molested during the event.
The Commissioner of Police, Aina Adesola, strongly condemned the reported acts, describing sexual violence as criminal, inhumane, and a serious violation of the rights and dignity of victims.
He subsequently ordered an immediate investigation into the incident.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, it was disclosed that “CP Aina Adesola, has ordered that the case be immediately transferred to State criminal department (SCID) for further investigation.
“Tactical and investigative assets have been duly deployed with a clear mandate to identify, apprehend, and ensure the prosecution of all individuals found culpable.”
The command also called on members of the public, especially victims and witnesses, to come forward with any useful information to support the ongoing investigation.
According to him, “All information provided will be treated with strict confidentiality and the highest level of professionalism.”
CP Adesola further urged residents to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding, while assuring that the command remains committed to protecting lives, defending citizens’ rights, and maintaining public order.
The Delta State Police Command reiterated its condemnation of the incident and assured that all those involved in the alleged acts would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
