An Osun Magistrate Court sitting in Ilesa has ordered the remand of six men over alleged offences including conspiracy, assault, breach of peace, threat to life, and robbery.
The accused persons – Ukechukwu Uwanyi, Daniel Annes, Mtser Kenneth, Godwin Daniel, Abraham Attah, and Philip Vihim – were brought before Magistrate A. Ayeni at Court 2 in Ilesa, Osun State.
According to the charge sheet, another suspect identified as Chief Olabusoye Onigbogi remains at large.
The case, titled Commissioner of Police versus Ukechukwu Uwanyi and five others, was filed by the Police Prosecution Officer, Alhaji Keji Maru.
While presenting the case, the prosecutor informed the court that the defendants allegedly conspired to commit a felony on March 19 at about 4:10 p.m. in the Igbo-Olomo area of Iloko-Ijesa within the Ilesa Magisterial District.
Maru stated that “the alleged conspiracy involved assault occasioning harm, which he said is punishable under Section 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun State, 2002”.
“The defendants attacked one Chief Alake Emmanuel, beating him with sticks, tearing his clothes and inflicting injuries on him,” the prosecutor told the court.
He further alleged that the actions of the defendants led to a breach of peace, adding that they reportedly used sticks and cutlasses during the attack.
According to the prosecution, “the accused persons also forcefully seized the victim’s Android phone and threatened to kill him while armed with dangerous weapons”.
Maru added that the defendants were also accused of robbing the victim of ₦3,855,000, an offence punishable under Sections 383 and 390 of the Criminal Code.
In his ruling, Magistrate Ayeni ordered that the defendants be remanded at the Ilesa Correctional Centre pending further hearing of the case.
