Suspected armed herders have launched another deadly attack in Benue State, leaving several residents of Tse Ameen community in Gwer West Local Government Area dead.
The incident reportedly occurred late Saturday night, when the attackers invaded the quiet settlement and carried out a violent assault. By the following day, the extent of the damage began to emerge, with casualties confirmed and others still missing.
A resident, who requested anonymity, told journalists during a phone interview that five bodies were recovered on Sunday, adding that search efforts were ongoing for others who could not be accounted for.
“Five corpses, which included three males and two females, were recovered yesterday (Sunday).”
However, the Benue State Police Command has provided a slightly lower casualty figure. The command’s spokesperson, Udeme Edet, confirmed the attack and stated that four bodies had been recovered.
“The incident is confirmed, four dead bodies were recovered.”
Reacting to the development, Hyacinth Alia extended his condolences to the people of Gwer West. While receiving previously abducted passengers who had regained their freedom at the Government House on Sunday, the governor urged security agencies to intensify efforts to apprehend those behind the attack.
