A fatal road accident on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos has claimed the life of one woman, while four others sustained serious injuries following a head-on collision involving two commercial buses.
The crash, which occurred near Iyana-Iworo in the early hours of Tuesday, involved two fully loaded Toyota Sienna buses.
Confirming the incident, Olawale Afolabi of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency said emergency responders swiftly moved injured victims to a nearby trauma centre for urgent treatment.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that reckless driving by another Toyota Sienna triggered the crash, resulting in a head-on collision between the two vehicles,” he said.
According to the agency, its Tiger Squad was activated shortly after the incident and arrived at the scene within minutes to coordinate rescue efforts.
Officials from LASEMA worked alongside personnel from the police and the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority to manage traffic and clear the wreckage.
The Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, described the accident as avoidable and urged motorists to prioritise safety.
