12 Boko Haram Abductees Escape in Borno

Twelve individuals abducted by fighters of the Boko Haram in Ngoshe community, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, have successfully escaped from captivity and reached safety.

According to reports, the group made up of 10 men and two women managed to flee during a period of heightened military operations in the area, which reportedly disrupted insurgent activities and forced them to abandon some of the captives.

A source from Pulka explained that the escape occurred amid pressure from ongoing security operations.

“One of the victims told us that there were military operations in the area which forced the insurgents to abandon some of them and escape with the majority of the captives,” he said.

The development was also confirmed in a statement issued by the Borno South Youth Alliance, which noted that the escape took place on Wednesday and that the victims have since reached a secure location.

“They are now safe in a nearby town,” the statement said.

The escapees include Aisha Audu (20), Hajara Audu (18 months), Aisha Idrisa (17), Hafsat Idrisa (four months), Aisha Abubakar Bama (22), Maryam Umar (11 months), Zainabu Umar Mbasuwa (22), Salma Abubakar (two months), Musa Umar (7), Suleiman Umar (9), Aisha Abubakar (17), and Aisha Musa (10).

GoNews recall that they were part of a larger group reportedly abducted during the March 4, 2026 attack on Ngoshe community, where as many as 416 individuals were taken by insurgents.

The incident had drawn widespread concern, especially after Boko Haram released a video issuing a 72-hour ultimatum to the Federal Government and authorities in Borno State, threatening to harm the captives if its demands were not met.
