Nigerian Men Are Confident and Supportive – Ayra Starr

Afrobeats sensation, Ayra Starr, has openly expressed her admiration and praise for Nigerian men.

Speaking on a recent episode of the “Way Up with Angela Yee” podcast, Starr drew a parallel between Nigerian men and New York men, describing them as both supportive and remarkably confident.

However, she did note that she still harbored some reservations about Nigerian men, emphasizing that “men are still men.”

She elaborated, “Nigerian men love to take care of their women. They are very supportive of their wife or girlfriend.

“They are very very confident, so it is almost the same thing as New York men. But you know, men are men. A man is a man still. It is universal thing.”

This statement comes months after Ayra Starr faced considerable criticism and backlash on social media, primarily from Nigerian men. They argued that her advocacy for feminism online seemed inconsistent with her offline persona.

Her detractors claimed that her enthusiastic reaction to meeting Chris Brown and her dance video to Naira Marley’s song did not align with her perceived feminist image.

She had also previously encountered criticism regarding her fashion sense.

Starr addressed the controversy surrounding her fashion choices, telling critics in 2023 that they were neither her “pastor” nor her “mother.”
