Music Is Warfare and Social Influence – Bella Shmurda

Nigerian music star Bella Shmurda has shared his perspective on the broader role of music, describing it as a force that extends beyond entertainment into social influence and personal well-being.

Bella Shmurda made the remarks while speaking in the For Bunmi documentary, where he reflected on the deeper impact of music on individuals and communities.

According to him, music serves multiple purposes, ranging from emotional support to societal transformation.

“Music is warfare. Music is a tool for the society. Music is a tool of progress. Music is an instrument of goodwill. Music is a tool to keep people sane, to put them in the right state of mind, to make them dance away their sorrow, and to make them feel alive and self-conscious,” he explained.

Bella Shmurda also spoke about how fatherhood has reshaped his approach to making music. He said the experience has made him more intentional about his content, as he now considers how his work will be perceived by his children in the future.

He added that he wants his music to be something his children can look back on with pride, influencing the themes and messages he chooses to express in his songs.
