How I Missed $300,000 Jewellery Deal – Skales

Nigerian singer Skales has shared insights into the financial realities of the entertainment and sports industries, revealing how he missed out on a $300,000 luxury jewellery deal connected to a young football star.

Speaking in a recent interview, Skales reflected on the stark differences between earnings in music and football, pointing out that athletes often enjoy more stable and consistent income streams.

According to him, footballers do not necessarily need global fame to earn substantial money, as their income is largely tied to performance and structured contracts rather than fluctuating public relevance.

“You don’t have to be globally famous to make serious money. You can just be a regular guy… they no dey bench you, and you go dey make money,” Skales said.

He contrasted this with the music industry, which he described as unpredictable and dependent on sustained popularity over time. In his view, achieving long-term success in music often requires a level of consistency that can feel beyond one’s control.

Skales further revealed that footballers benefit significantly from off-field opportunities, including endorsement deals and luxury partnerships—an area where he personally experienced a missed opportunity.

He disclosed that he lost out on a jewellery deal worth over $300,000 that was linked to a young footballer, underscoring the scale of financial opportunities available within the sport.

The singer concluded by noting that only a small number of Nigerian musicians reach comparable levels of wealth, while many others continue to navigate financial challenges within the industry.
