Katsina Strengthens School Safety Policy Implementation

The Katsina State Government is stepping up actions to improve safety in schools by adapting the National Policy on Safety, Security and Violence-Free Schools to fit local realities.

This was revealed by Mr Nasir Ahmed, Director of Planning, Research and Statistics at the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, during a meeting in Katsina on Saturday.

He spoke when a committee overseeing the policy review visited the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr Yusuf Suleiman-Jibia.

The initiative is being carried out with support from Save the Children International under the Education Cannot Wait First Emergency Response Project, focusing on building violence-free and secure learning spaces.

During the visit, the committee shared updates on efforts to tailor the national policy to address the unique challenges facing schools in the state.

According to the delegation leader, the goal is to reinforce safety standards and ensure that schools provide a secure and supportive environment for both teaching and learning.

Ahmed also highlighted progress made so far, noting that large parts of the policy have already been successfully adjusted to reflect local conditions.
