Former Senate President Bukola Saraki has issued a sharp condemnation of the brutal raid on the Ngoshe community in Borno State’s Gwoza Local Government Area.
In a statement posted to his X account, Saraki labeled the attack which reportedly claimed the lives of community leaders and soldiers, struck a displaced persons camp, and saw the abduction of numerous women and children as both unsettling and inhumane.
While he credited the Nigerian Air Force for its prompt intervention, he argued that the incident laid bare deep-seated vulnerabilities in the nation’s security framework.
Saraki suggested that the magnitude of the raid pointed to a major breakdown in intelligence sharing and security coordination.
“While the Nigerian Air Force’s response is commendable, the wider security gaps that allowed such an attack to happen remain worrying,” he said.
He emphasized that an operation of this scale and complexity highlights a critical need to overhaul Nigeria’s intelligence systems and ensure more consistent, localized air support across the Northeast.
“An attack of this scale and coordination does not happen in isolation. It shows the need to reassess our intelligence gathering systems and strengthen sustained, localised air support across the Northeast,” he added.
Saraki also paused to honor those who fell during the violence, including the local Chief Imam, several community elders, and the soldiers of the 82 Division Task Force Battalion who died defending the town.
He expressed his deepest sympathies for the families of the victims and the many residents who have once again been uprooted from their homes.
